Ellen Lerman

Ellen Lerman, 80, of West Hartford CT passed away June 22, 2018 after a 3-year valiant battle with colon cancer. She was lovingly cared for by her husband Robert (Bob) of 60 years and daughter Joanne who were at her side. She passed easily and quietly. Ellen was known for devotion, compassion and complete love for all of her children and grandchildren. She was always available to lift their spirits, lend a helping hand and share a kind word. Ellen was a unique person, always giving, always there when you needed her, and a fun person to be with at all times. Ellen was an elegant, sophisticated woman marked by her sense of style and fashion. She loved gardening and took great pride in her home. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, enjoyed family events, and traveling. She was a valiant fighter, striving every day to overcome her disorder while dismissing and refusing to complain about her cancer. She is survived by her husband Robert of West Hartford and their 4 children Joanne Lerman (West Hartford), Kenneth Lerman (Hartford), Carla Perl (Pound Ridge NY) and Andrea Gerber (Roslyn NY). Her daughter Beth Becker predeceased her in 2006 succumbing to breast cancer. Ellen had 9 grandchildren, Jordan Becker, Alexander Perl, Joshua Becker, Sara Perl, Benjamin Coady, Noah Perl, Harry Gerber, Amanda Gerber and Sydney Gerber. She had a fraternal twin Myra Holzer and sister Joan Glick.
Services will be at graveside at Congregation Beth Israel cemetery, Avon CT Monday June 25 at 11 am. The family will memorialize her life at 29 Soby Drive, West Hartford CT, Monday afternoon from 4 to 8. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center for their compassionate care and concern, and the Hospice staff at Hartford HealthCare at Home who were extremely responsive and caring for Ellen during the last month of her very full life. Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, handled the final matters with compassion and professionalism.
