Ellen M. Blumberg, of Milford CT, 83, passed away on October 18, 2025, in Chicago, Illinois. Ellen’s elegance, compassion, and optimistic presence will be deeply missed by those who knew her.
She was born on August 11, 1942, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and passed away peacefully, leaving a legacy of love, connection, joy, and values. Ellen grew up in Fairfield, Connecticut, and spent over 55 years living in Hartford, CT and Vermont, where she built a warm home with her late husband, Arthur Blumberg. In her later years, she embraced new chapters with her partner, Butch Shimelman, in Milford, CT and Palm Springs, CA.
An avid golfer, skier, hiker, dancer, reader and gardener, Ellen found joy in nature and movement. She was a true fashionista, with a timeless style that matched her bright personality. A natural connector, deeply interested in everyone, Ellen created a community wherever she went— linking friends and families with intention, warmth and her signature sparkle.
As co-owner of Celebrations Unlimited, an event planning business, Ellen made people’s dreams come true. Whether organizing weddings, parties, or special milestones, she poured her heart into creating unforgettable experiences, always with grace and creativity - For Ellen, life was a celebration
Ellen is lovingly remembered by her daughter Carolyn, son-in-law Scott Walter, son Matthew and his partner Lakshmi Nayak, her fiance Butch Shimelman, and brother Michael Meshken. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur Blumberg, and her memory will be cherished by her nieces, nephews, cousins, and all of the family and friends who were fortunate to know her.
A Memorial Service honoring Ellen’s life will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Avenue, West Hartford, Connecticut. Shiva will follow; all are invited to bring and share stories of Ellen’s remarkable life.
A charitable fund has been set up in Ellen's name at the Hartford Art School, The Ellen Blumberg HEART Art Student Program to support students with art supplies to practice their crafts.
