Elinor S Welson

Elinor (Stein) Welson of West Hartford, CT, wife of 59 years to Sherwin “Sonny” Welson and loving father to Cathy Welson and Linda Rosenthal, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026 at the age of 92.

Besides her daughters, she leaves her grandchildren Melissa Peracchio and her husband Mike, Jessica Cronin and her wife Beth, Nicole Taylor and her husband Logan, Benjamin Rosenthal and his wife Liz Griffin, Elizabeth Yorke and her husband Josh, and Daniel Rosenthal, along with her son-in-law Robert Rosenthal and twelve great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Sherwin Welson, grandson Zachary Markowitz and son-in-law Stephen Edberg. She also leaves behind countless close friends from both the West Hartford and Longboat Key, FL communities.

Elinor was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and moved to the Hartford area when she married. She became a clinical social worker specializing in the deaf and hearing-impaired communities. Throughout her life she also was a tour guide at the Mark Twain House and the Carousel Museum. She enjoyed writing short stories and poems and found passion in art. In later years she became a pretty good mahjong and canasta player.

Elinor loved life and embraced its unpredictability and spontaneity. She lived each day with immense gratitude and an extraordinary optimism that never wavered.

Weinstein Mortuary is assisting the family. A graveside funeral will be for the family ONLY. Relatives and friends will be welcomed for Shiva at 25 Cassandra Blvd, Apt 204, in West Hartford, on Wednesday July 8 from 12:00 to 2:00.
