Elinor Wilensky Tannenbaum was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1919 and died in her Duncaster Apartment in Bloomfield CT on September 2nd 2015. Elinor’s life was truly remarkable and she is remembered by her loving friends and family, including her son Lewis and daughters Ruth and Susan. She grew up in Brooklyn, the daughter of immigrant parents Simon and Essie and the younger sister of Bessie and Rebecca. She graduated from NYU in 1939 and she married the love of her life, David Tannenbaum in 1941, after which she became a beloved member of the Tannenbaum Family. Elinor received her Master’s in Education from Hofstra University, before beginning her teaching career at Woodmere Elementary School, where she was a treasured teacher for 20 years, She loved her family and friends foremost, the beach, golf, tennis and swimming and teaching exercise classes at the 5 Towns Senior center. Her Jewish heritage was extremely important to her and she was an active member of the National Council of Jewish Women. She lived in Long Island for 60 years then moved to her Duncaster home, where she became a cherished member of the community. She will be missed not only by her children, but also by her son-in-law Gary, daughters-in-laws Jane and Katherine, grandchildren Michael, Tami, Steven (and their spouses, Kelly, Jorge, and Tina), Julia and Nick and her great-grandchildren David, Sara, Lucas and Mila, as well as her loving nieces, nephews and dear friends. Condolences can be paid to Elinor’s family at the home of Ruth and Gary Benanav, 11 Governors Row on Wednesday 9/9 or Thursday 9/10 4:30-8:00PM.
