Efrem Jaffe

Efrem Jaffe, 80 years of age, of Manchester, died Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Louis and Rose (Cohen) Jaffe. He attended Bryant College and was a US Army veteran. After service, he went to work in the family business, American Masons and Building Supply in Hartford. He co-owned and operated the business for 57 years retiring in June 2011. Efrem was Israel Bonds East of the River Chairman for several years. He was a past president and member of the Board of Trustees of the former Temple Beth Sholom in Manchester, now known as Beth Sholom B’nai Israel. He was a former vice president of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Hartford, a member of the Board of Directors of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, and a Hadassah Associate. He was the loving husband of Maxine (Lappin) Jaffe; beloved father of Louis S. Jaffe and his wife Dr. Lara Oboler of New York, NY, and Marjorie Jaffe Goldner and her husband Bruce of New York, NY; cherished grandfather of Sylvie, Rubie and Chase Goldner, and Henry, Gabriel and Stella Jaffe; his brother of Sheldon Jaffe and his wife Nancy of Los Angeles, CA; and his sister-in-law, Toby Jaffe of Baltimore, MD. He was predeceased by his brother, Lawrence S. Jaffe. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 20, 2012 at 9:30 am in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Richard Plavin and Cantor Anita Schubert officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Beth Sholom Memorial Park, Manchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Rose C. Jaffe Fund, c/o Beth Sholom B’nai Israel, 400 Middle Turnpike East, Manchester 06040.
