Edythe ((Rickel)) Bloom

Edythe Rickel Bloom, LCSW of West Hartford, CT. May 2, 1921 to October 1, 2017. Passed away peacefully at her home after a courageous fight with cancer. Edythe was the daughter of Clara and Samuel Rickel of Allentown, Pennsylvania. She earned a Phi Beta Kappa from Pennsylvania State University in 1941 and received her MSW from Smith College School of Social Work in 1943. Edythe attended the Hebrew University in 1947 and had a life long interest in the state of Israel. Edythe was married to Sholom Bloom who pre-deceased her. She is survived by her daughter Judith Fishman and her beloved grand daughters Claudine and Madeline Fishman, her son Jonathan Gil Bloom and her daughter-in-law Janice Gilbert Bloom of Valencia, CA and her beloved granddaughters Vanessa, Desiree and Rosy Bloom and great grand daughter Elena Bloom-Aburto. Edythe was predeceased by her two sisters Bernice Fletcher of Allentown, PA and Sherrie Greenberg of Palo Alto, CA. There will be a private memorial service at the Beth El Cemetery in Allentown, PA. The family would like to thank Diane, Dawn and Sherona of Companions and Homemakers and Mclean Hospice for all their support and care, and a special thanks to Lauren Hurst, for her love and support throughout the years.
