Edward (C.) Rosenfield

Edward C. Rosenfield, 69 years of age, of Boca Raton, FL and Avon, CT, passed peacefully on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 with his wife and daughter at his side. He was born in Waterbury, CT at Waterbury Hospital on June 17, 1946, son of Harry and Selina (Glasser) Rosenfield. Ed was a graduate of Boston University.

He is survived by his beloved wife Andrea (Schiffres) Rosenfield; his daughter Carlianne Rosenfield; his brother Arthur Rosenfield and Arthur’s companion Wilma Ezekowitz; his sister Patti Rosenfield and her husband Eric Pence; his brothers-in-law, Robert Schiffres, Howard and his wife, Donna Schiffres; several nieces and nephews; and Cassandra Howard. He was predeceased by his parents, his in-laws Beatrice and Jack Schiffres, and nieces Debra Schiffres and Wendy Rosenfield.

Edward was a highly valued member of the Connecticut business community. He was an innovator who changed the regional grocery landscape. He grew the Stop N Save supermarket chain into the groundbreaking The Original Warehouse Foods, and later created the Greenfields Markets, which brought the finest food products into retail stores. He served as the Legislative Chairman of the Connecticut Grocers Association and on the Board of Directors of the YPO (Young Presidents Organization).

Edward founded Sunset Properties, a commercial real estate company that spans several states.

A dynamic member of the business and philanthropic communities in both Connecticut and Florida, Edward’s ready smile and positive attitude enriched the lives of everyone he encountered. An avid golfer, Edward found a way to fit a round of 18 into his busy schedule. A competitive bridge player, Edward partnered with his brother Arthur to accumulate an impressive array of Master Points. Edward and his wife, Andrea loved world travel; they were visitors to China early in the open travel era, Africa, Australia and numerous places in Europe. He was a valued member of Tumblebrook Country Club (Bloomfield, CT) and Boca Rio Country Club (Boca Raton, FL).

For many years he ran a golf tournament for Sylvester Cancer Center in Miami and served on the Board of Directors of the University of Connecticut Cancer Research Golf Tournament. Edward made it a priority to support the Lustgarten Foundation, which has the mission of advancing scientific and medical research related to the diagnosis, treatment, cure and prevention of pancreatic cancer. In addition to his dedication to these medical causes, Edward was a generous supporter of the arts and various other philanthropic organizations.

While always dedicated to his daughter, Ed was also a father figure and mentor to many young men and women and family members over the years. He opened his home, his arms and his heart to many and leaves a legacy of generosity, optimism and an enduring love of life.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Sunday, December 27, 2015 in the Sanctuary of Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Ave. , West Hartford, CT 06117 with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Interment will follow in Beth El Temple Cemetery, Jackson St. Ext., Avon, CT. Following the interment and Monday, December 28th at 4:30 PM, the family will receive relatives and friends at the home of Dana and Phil Spagnola, 8 Banbury Crescent, Unionville, CT. Directions: Rte. 4 West through Unionville center. Left onto River Road; right into Bridgehampton Crossing. The first street on right is Banbury Crescent.
