Edward Rosen, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, at the age of 102.
Born on November 11, 1923, in Portland, Maine, Edward lived a remarkable life defined by resilience, service, family, and kindness. A proud World War II veteran and former prisoner of war, he demonstrated extraordinary courage and perseverance during one of history's most challenging periods. He is survived by his loving daughters, Barbara “Bobbi” Schilberg and her husband, Nate Schilberg, and Jaye Solomowitz and her husband, Benjamin. He also leaves behind his treasured grandchildren and their spouses Joshua and Lindsey, Justin and Vanessa, Rebecca and Daniel and Sarah. He also adored his great-grandchildren, Sophie, Olivia and Juliana along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly. He was also predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years, Judith, and his cherished daughter, Bonnie. Edward spent most of his life in Queens, New York, where he raised his family and built lasting friendships. In the late 1980s, he and his beloved wife, Judith, relocated to Florida, where they enjoyed many happy years together. In 2018 he and Judith moved to Connecticut to be closer to his daughters and family. Known for his calm nature, steady presence, and easygoing demeanor, Edward earned the affectionate nickname "Steady Eddie." He was a beloved Uconn Men’s and Women’s basketball teams and the NY Yankees fan. Edward's life spanned more than a century of change, challenge, and progress. Through it all, he remained steadfast, humble, and devoted to those he loved. His legacy of strength, service, generosity, and family devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 12, 2026 at State Veterans Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown, CT. Shiva will be held Sunday June 14th 6pm at the home of Barbara and Nathan Schilberg with prayer service at 7pm. Donations in Edwards name can be made to Jewish Family Services of Greater Hartford website at jfshartford.org or to any Veterans organization of your choice.
