Edith (Jacobowitz) Schneider

SCHNEIDER, Edith (Jacobowitz) Schneider, of West Hartford, formerly of Norwalk and Stratford, died Thursday, February 7, 2008 at home. For 59 years she was the wife of the late Milton Schneider. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Tessie (Blecher) Jacobowitz. She graduated from Long Island University and she was a member of Hadassah. Edith leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Myra and Lewis Platt of Newington; her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Howard and Karen Schneider of San Diego, CA; five grandchildren, Steven Platt and his wife Amy, Stacey Platt and her fiancé Christopher Orpen, Stephanie Vick and her husband Tim, Lauren Schneider and her fiancé Michael Scott, and Scott Schneider; four great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ellen Jacobowitz and Lillian Lagana; and several cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Murray and Marvin Jacobowitz. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Edith’s three devoted caregivers, Cynthia Allen, Beverly Gayle, and Barbara Glass, to her doctors and nurses who attended her, and to the staff at Chatfield. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 10, 2008 at 11:30 am at Congregation B’nai Sholom Cemetery, Jordan Lane Extension, Wethersfield with Rabbi Debra Cantor officiating. A memorial period will be observed at the home of her daughter Sunday following the funeral through Monday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., P.O. Box 1004, Meriden 06450 or to a charity of the donor?s choice.
