Dr. Mark Conway, 94, of West Hartford passed away at home surrounded by his children on May 16, 2014. He was born in London, England and came to this country in 1950 with his beloved wife Judy. He was a graduate of the Medical College of St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, earning a full scholarship after graduating first in his class from the Raine’s Foundation School in East London. He was a Captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps in England. Mark began his career in the U.S. as a general practitioner on Blue Hills Avenue in Hartford and then trained at Yale to become a psychiatrist in 1963, practicing psychiatry in West Hartford for over forty years. He was an avid gardener, and was known for his love of growing tomatoes. Mark was a devoted father and grandfather. He leaves behind his three children and their spouses, Stephen and Sharon Conway, Wendy and John Schmidt, Susan and Charlie Knapp, and 8 grandchildren, Sarah Conway, Jake Conway, Nomi Conway, Thomas Schmidt, Michael Schmidt, Ali Schmidt, Emily Knapp and Caroline Knapp. The funeral will be on Sunday, May 18 at 2pm with Rabbi Philip Lazowski officiating at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford. Interment will follow at the Beth Hillel Cemetery in East Granby. Following interment, the family will receive friends for a period of mourning at Mark’s home. The family will receive again on Monday, from 3-9 PM. There will be an evening service at home on both days at 7:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, New York City Chapter, 432 Park Avenue South, New York, New York 10018 or DONATE HERE online, and choose the New York City Chapter.
