Dr. Frank Maslan, age 97, of West Hartford, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Roslyne (Eisenberg) Rosenfield Maslan for nearly 38 years. Dr. Maslan was born on April 2, 1919 in Kansas City, MO to the late Samuel and Alice (Gedanken) Maslan. He was a proud U.S. Army WWII veteran. Professionally, Dr. Maslan’s area of expertise was chemical engineering. He earned his B.S. at the University of Illinois; his M.S. at the University of Missouri; and his Ph.D. at Yale University, where he worked on the development of the atomic bomb. He was employed in a variety of positions including research at Brookhaven National Laboratory, teaching at Yale and UConn, and consulting at the U.S. Department of Energy. He enjoyed photography, searching for antiques and collectables at auctions, and reading the Wall Street Journal. Besides his devoted wife, Roslyne, who brought him steadfast love and joy, Dr. Maslan is survived by his children: Peggy Simons Segall (Marc) and their children Stephen Segall, Rachel Segall and David Segall; Mark Jonathan Maslan (Ann) and their son Daniel Maslan; and Susan Amy (Maslan) Arnold (Oliver) and their daughter Daisy Arnold - all of California. Dr. Maslan was also blessed to leave behind supportive stepchildren: Stephen Rosenfield (Cheryl) and their children Andrea Rosenfield and Eric Rosenfield of West Hartford, CT; Samuel Rosenfield (Ruth) of Avon, CT and Phoenix, AZ, and their children Rachael Adger (Kevin) of Tucson, AZ, Robert Rosenfield (Julia) of Avon, CT, and Joseph Rosenfield (Stacey) of Queen Creek, AZ; Matthew Rosenfield of West Hartford, CT; and David Rosenfield of West Hartford, CT. In addition, he has four great grandchildren. Dr. Maslan was predeceased by his siblings: Minnie (Maslan) Ross; Leon Maslan; and David Maslan - all of Kansas City, MO. The funeral will be held on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with interment at Beth El Cemetery, 51 Jackson St., Avon, CT. Immediately following interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at Beth El Temple in West Hartford.
