Dr. Flaxman was born in Hartford, CT in 1927. He was the son of the late Samuel & Anne Flaxman. He died at his home in Palm Beach, FL, peacefully on Wednesday morning, May 30th, with family members & his private nurses surrounding him with love. He had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s 13 years ago, progressing through the devastating effects of the disease, but he died with the dignity he deserved as for the person he was during most of his lifetime. He graduated from Weaver High School in 1946. He then enlisted and served in the Korean War. After the war he graduated from the University of Connecticut and then received a degree in Podiatry from the University of Chicago. In 1961, while practicing podiatry in Connecticut he purchased Hughes Convalescent Home which was an 18-bed facility that, over the next fifty years, he developed into a 170-bed health and rehabilitation hospital. Now called Hughes Health and Rehab, the institution has achieved some of the top awards in the industry for pursuing the highest standards. His generosity and genuine caring for everyone who knew him was appreciated by all. He leaves behind his loving wife, Sandra Mostow Flaxman, his two daughters, Denise Wilbur and Sharon Flaxman and a son, Brian Flaxman. He was also a loving grandpa to four grandsons, Zachary, Matthew, Samuel, and Ross as well as two great-grandchildren, Eric and Penelope. He is also survived by three sisters, Elaine Rudnick, Janice Rappaport, and Ruth Brown. All who knew his love, generosity and caring personality will miss him deeply. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 1st at 2:00pm at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT, with Rabbi Pincus officiating.
