Dorothy (Freedman) Rubin

Dorothy (Freedman) Rubin, 89, of West Hartford, died at her home on Monday, November 20, 2006. She was the widow of Isidor Rubin. She was born in Hartford, on November 7, 1917, daughter of the late Benjamin and Annie (Fraidowitz) Freedman. She spent her life being a devoted wife, a caring mother, and a wonderful grandmother. She also made the time to be active in the Greater Hartford Jewish Community Center, helping to initiate programs for the elderly. She was a member of Hadassah, a Lion of Judah member of the Women?s Division of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, and a charter member, along with her late husband, of Beth El Temple of West Hartford. Her children and their friends remember her as the best Cub Scout den mother ever. After her children were raised, she became a dental hygienist for the West Hartford Parochial Schools, a position she truly loved, and the teachers and students she touched loved her back. She is survived by her children: Drs. Robert and Nina Rubin of Brookline, MA and Matthew and Hadass Rubin of Old Saybrook; by her grandchildren: Melissa Rubin of Cambridge, MA, Peter and Estee Rubin of Oakland, CA, Michelle Rubin of Medford, MA, and Ariel Rubin of Hartford; and by her sister and brother-in-law: Marcia and Joseph Zola of West Hartford. A graveside service will be held at the Beth El Temple Cemetery, 27 Jackson Street, Avon at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 22. A memorial period will be observed by the family on Wednesday, following the funeral, at 56 Mohawk Drive, West Hartford. Donations in her memory may be made to the Hebrew Home and Hospital, 1 Abrahms Boulevard, West Hartford, CT 06117. Arrangements entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford.
