Dorothy ("Dot") Friedman

d. January 1, 1970

Dorothy “Dot” Friedman passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on January 13th. Born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1920, she lived a roaring 95 years. As a girl, she developed what would be a lifelong love for music and theater. That passion for music led her as a teenager to have a show on a local Kansas City radio station. Pursued by many, Dot married her first sweetheart, Kansas City entrepreneur and toy maker, Henry Rosenberg. She kept the business’s books and also had a brief stint as an insurance salesperson, unheard for a woman in those days. Together Henry and Dorothy had two beautiful daughters, Judy and Shirley. After Henry’s untimely death in 1954, Dorothy married Sol Friedman two years later. Together with Sollie, she and the girls moved to Cedarhurst Long Island and then to Manhattan. Dorothy’s love for her daughters and their husbands, Mark Brown and Ira Yohalem was emblematic of the value she placed on family. The impact and involvement she had on her grandsons Hagan and Lewis Brown, their wives Alicia and Miki and her four great grandchildren Sophie, Jack, Tessa, and Marley Brown continued throughout her life.

Cigarettes and salt were close seconds to her love for her family! A two-three pack a day smoker for 65 years, an inveterate salt user up until the day she died, Dot’s cravings highlighted her devil may care personality. Then there was her longing to travel. Dot could be packed and ready to go at a moment’s notice. In fact the day before she passed away, she talked about going on an African Safari. Even with oxygen 24/7, she was sure she could make the trip. Dorothy was feisty, irreverent and always the life of the party. Of course she will be missed, but her stories will live on forever in the hearts and memories of her family and friends. At this point in time Dorothy joins her beloved son-in-law Mark Brown and husbands Henry and Sollie. As she embarks on her final journey we bid her so long, farewell, auf wiedershen, adieu.
