Curt Warner

Curt Warner (Kurt Worms), age 93, passed away on March 23, 2015 in Bloomfield. He was born in Aschaffenburg, Germany on June 25, 1921 – the son of Leopold & Gerda (Straus) Worms. During the evening of Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass) in 1938, he was saved from being transported to a concentration camp by hiding in a sleeper sofa in a Frankfurt apartment. He served some time in a Nazi work camp, but was fortunate to take ill and be sent outside the camp for medical attention, never to return back there. Curt took the last ship from Rotterdam to the U.S. at the age of 19, in 1940. He settled in Hartford, CT where he met his future wife who was the daughter of the family with whom he was a boarder. He married Marion Buchheim on April 20, 1947. Curt is survived by his wife and 2 children: Steven Warner and Beverly Ladue, and her husband James Ladue, and his adored granddaughter, Arielle. During World War II Curt joined the US Army and was stationed in Texas as a medic. After the war he worked as a plumbing supply supervisor in a Hartford company. The company moved to Brooklyn, NY and Curt followed, moving his family to Oceanside, NY in 1968. After retiring in 1986, he retained residences in both Bloomfield, CT and Lauderhill, FL. In Florida he truly enjoyed his friends and pool in the warmth and sunshine. Over the years Curt made many trips back to his home town in Germany where he took great pleasure in talking to local students about his life there during the pre-war & wartime era, educating them about the Holocaust. He delighted in helping others, especially being a “Mr. Fixit” for countless people. Material things were of no importance to him - relationships with family and friends were top priority. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 25 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave, Hartford with Rabbi Marshall Press officiating. Burial will follow at the B’nai Tikvoh-Sholom cemetery in Windsor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Congregation B’nai Tikvoh-Sholom or a charity of your choice.
