Clare Bernstein, mother, grandmother, one-time farmer, teacher, and Connecticut State Welfare Department adjudicator, died August 7, in Brooklyn, NY. She was 94. Born Clare Brown in the town of Kishvarda in northeast Hungary on March 1, 1919 she emigrated to the United States in 1922. She and her husband, Herbert, operated a poultry farm in East Haddam before moving to Manchester in 1968 where she worked as a welfare adjudicator for the State of Connecticut. She was a devoted, generous, and wise wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She leaves behind a son, Richard Bernstein, a daughter, Judith Peritz, and four grandchildren. There will be a graveside funeral service Friday, Aug, 9, 2013 at 11:30 am at the Beth Sholom Memorial Park, Manchester. Shiva will be at 185 St. Johns Pl., Brooklyn, NY.
