Carol Bacon Hyman, 93, formerly of West Hartford, died May 20, 2026 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law in South Windsor. Born in Hartford on November 1, 1932, she was the only child of the late Louis and Eva (Levin) Bacon. Carol married her high school sweetheart Edward Hyman while attending Smith College and completed her degree in early childhood education at St. Joseph’s College in West Hartford. Before starting a family, she was a kindergarten teacher; and later resumed teaching nursery school at the Hartford Jewish Community Center.
Whether singing masterworks with a community chorus or The Itsy Bitsy Spider with grand- and great-grandchildren, Carol loved music as well as dancing with Eddy – even in the living room. She enjoyed watching the French Chef, trying new recipes and traveling in Europe; and also swimming - especially in the ocean and most especially on vacation in Cape Cod.
Carol was pre-deceased by her husband Eddy, infant daughter Rachel, sister- and brother-in-law Rita and Arthur Silverman, and two specially close cousins Richard A. Levin and Dinah Bell Schulman. She is survived by a son Steven (Tina) Hyman, South Windsor; two daughters Deborah (Alan Ruder) Hyman of Seattle and Sarah (Dennis) Baldwin of Clayton, NY; seven grandchildren Gregory, Shauna (Todd), Joanna (Robby), Morgan (Matt), Jacob (Amy), Eli, and Brenden; and two great-granddaughters Jai Di and Eliana, with a third on the way.
The family extends grateful thanks to caregivers Florence, Nadine and Janice, in addition to many others who helped Carol after she moved from the family home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hartford HealthCare at Home Hospice, 100 Pearl St, Hartford CT 06103, or the hospice or palliative care of your choice. Graveside Services will be held Sunday May 24, 2026 11:00am at Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery 1361 Berlin Tpke Wethersfield, CT.
