Beverly (Cohen) Hershman, 86, of Loeffler Rd., Bloomfield, formerly of Bristol, died Monday, January 28, 2008. She was the widow of Harry H. Hershman, M.D. Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Murray and Gussie (Friedman) Cohen. Beverly attended the University of Connecticut and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Beth Israel Nursing School in New York City. She spent many years working for charities including Bristol Hospital Auxiliary, where she held the title of president. She was a member of the Connecticut Hospital Board, a member of the Board of the Wheeler Affiliates, a member of the Board of VNA of Bristol, a life member of Hadassah and past president of the local chapter at Beth Israel Synagogue. She was an enthusiastic worker for United Way. She was also very active in the Democratic Party. Beverly was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue of Bristol and past president of the Synagogue?s Sisterhood. She leaves her son, Murray J. Hershman of Laurel, MA; her two daughters, Maxine Green of New York, NY, and Elaine Hershman of New York, NY; her sister, Claire Gard of Avon; her five grandchildren, Rachel Silverman and her husband Daniel, Micah Green and his wife Vardit, Joshua Green, Adam Hershman, and Samantha Hershman; and her five great-grandchildren, Marin, Jaden, Emma, Elijah and Noah. Funeral services will be held TODAY, Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Israel Synagogue Cemetery, Bristol. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to charities working to prevent and cure breast cancer.
