Bernice ‘Bunny’ (Brightman) Bass, 91 years of age, of West Hartford, CT, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Bunny leaves her beloved husband of 70 years, J. Zalman Bass. Born in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Abraham and Clara (Kravitz) Brightman.
Bunny was a respected and beloved a teacher in the Bloomfield Public School System for 26 years. She was world famous for her incredible pies. After retirement, she loved to travel and volunteered as a Docent at the Noah Webster House, but her greatest joy was the time she spent with her beloved family. She was the best ‘Grandma’ anyone could have ever wished for.
In addition to her husband Zal, Bernice is survived by her two daughters, Donna Cohen and her husband, Elie, of Israel and Debra Elliott and her husband, Neal, of Acton, MA; her six beloved grandchildren, Yaelle, Sari, Avi and Danny Cohen of Israel and Matt and Josh Elliott of MA; her great-granddaughter, Imani and her brother David Brightman and his wife, Reva, of New Mexico
Funeral services will take place at 2:00pm on Friday, January 19, 2018 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, CT with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, 80 Wolcott Rd., East Granby, CT. Immediately following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at the family home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT.
