Bernard "Bernie" (M.) Wax

Bernard (“Bernie”) M. Wax, 86, of West Hartford, CT, formerly of Cape Cod and Sharon, MA passed away peacefully on June 26 at the Hebrew Home and Hospital in West Hartford, CT. He is survived by his spouse, Irene Miller Wax, to whom he was married for 64 wonderful and loving years. He was born in Boston, MA and was the son of Myer and Susan Rosenberg Wax. He graduated from Boston English High School in 1936 and attended Georgia Tech University, graduating from Tufts University School of Engineering in 1941. Bernie was a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy during World War II and received advanced engineering training at Cornell University while in the Navy. During the war, he was stationed in Illinois and “commanded an LSD”. He worked at Plymouth Rubber Company in Canton, MA from 1946 to 1977, retiring as Vice President of Operations. In addition to his wife, Bernie leaves his daughter, Laurie Kleinberg and her husband Joel Kleinberg of Pasadena, CA, and his son Robert Wax and his wife Susan Krell of West Hartford, CT. He leaves five grandchildren, Amanda Krell Gimondo and her husband Ronald Gimondo of Great Neck, NY, Lisa Krell Zephyr and Patrick Zephyr of Pelham, MA, Leslie Kleinberg of San Francisco, CA, Seth Kleinberg of Pasadena, CA and Matthew Wax-Krell of West Hartford, CT. He also leaves two great-grandchildren, Sky Camille Zephyr and Ruby Krell Gimondo. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy W. Sherman. He lived a full and happy life- and is one of those rare individuals who fortunately lived on both sides of the Red Sox “curse”. The family wishes to pay special thanks to the medical and nursing staffs at St. Francis Hospital and the Hebrew Home and Hospital. Funeral services will take place in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, June 29, 2005, with burial following at the State of Connecticut Veterans’ Cemetery in Middletown, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernie’s memory may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061-0515.
