Beatrice (Bea) Sussman, age 92, passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Poland in 1933, Beatrice was a woman of immense strength, grace, and resilience.
As a Holocaust survivor, she carried the history of her youth with a quiet dignity, turning a period of unimaginable hardship into a lifetime defined by love, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to her family. As a young girl she was a member of the Russian, anti-Nazi underground, and had to escape to Siberia. Bea emigrated to the United States in 1947.
Beatrice was a devoted wife to her late husband, Bernard Sussman. Bea and Bernie lived in New Britain, CT prior to moving to West Hartford CT in 1967. She was a loving mother to her son Marc Sussman of Simsbury, CT, her late daughter Roslyn Lee Sussman who passed away in 1969 at the age of 10, her daughter Laurie Brownstein & Son in Law Rich Brownstein of Newton, MA and a cherished grandmother to Ian Brownstein and his wife Rebbeca Reitz, Nicole Franco and her husband Sam Franco, Joshua Sussman & Mathew Sussman, and a proud great-grandmother to Brooklyn Brownstein and Jasper Franco.
Beyond her family, Beatrice was a loyal and compassionate friend. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and was known for her quiet sense of grace, dignity and making everyone she knew feel special and loved. Her legacy of survival and love will live on through the generations she nurtured.
Bea was a chairman for the State of Israel Bonds, women’s division, Vice Chairman of the United Jewish Appeal and active in B’nai Israel Sisterhood, a life member of Hadassah, a Lion of Judah, a member of ORT, Temple Beth El Sisterhood and B’nai B’rith Zionist Organization of America.
Funeral services will be held at Weinsteins Mortuary 640 Farmington Ave Hartford, CT on Friday January 16, 2026 at 11:00 AM with internment to follow at Beth Alom Cemetery, 46 Allen St. New Britain, CT.
