Barry (B.) Lapp

Barry B. Lapp, 53 years of age, of West Hartford died Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Hartford Hospital surrounded by his beloved wife, family and friends. Born in Hartford, he was the son of Arthur and Rita (Blumenthal) Lapp of West Hartford. Barry graduated from Hall High School in West Hartford and studied computer programing. He worked for CIGNA, Independence Unlimited, and Aetna before continuing his career with ATG Rehab in customer relations. He was involved with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Winners on Wheels, Jonathan’s Dream, and New Horizons. Barry followed the Indianapolis Colts and the Baltimore Orioles and was able to attend a game in Camden Yards. He loved the ocean and cruising and traveled as extensively as he could. His wheelchair did not inhibit his desire to live life to the fullest. Besides his parents, he leaves his wife, Maureen Duffy; his brother, Bruce E. Lapp and his wife Lois of South Windsor; his sister, Bonni Horwitz of West Hartford; his father and mother-in-law, Bernard and Eve Duffy of Rouses Point, NY; a brother-in-law, Matthew Duffy and his wife Tina of Clay, NY; two sisters-in-law, Sheila Patterson and her husband William of Dumphries, VA, and Maria Duffy of Lewiston, ME; and eleven nieces and nephews, Jen Lapp, Darcy and Dan Lapp-Rabinovitz, Sara, David (Barry?s God-son), Benjamin, and Daniel Horwitz, Jeremy, Kristin and Andrew Patterson, and Megan and Carson Duffy. He also is survived by his service dog, Boomer and was predeceased by his service dog, Caesar. Barry’s family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to Drs. Knauft and Casey and to the entire Bliss 11 ICU Team at Hartford Hospital for their excellent and compassionate care. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with interment in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. A memorial period will be observed Thursday following the interment at his parents’ home, 33 Seminole Circle, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association, 148 Eastern Boulevard, #100, Glastonbury 06033, or to Boundless Playgrounds, 280 Trumbull St., 23rd Floor, Hartford 06103, or to East Coast Assistance Dogs, P.O.
