Barbara Miller Porter of Avon passed away on April 21st. She was the beloved wife of Alan Porter for 63 years and daughter of Max and Sophie Miller. She is survived by her three loving children and their families; daughter, Marci Porter Delahanty, her husband, James Delahanty, granddaughter, Sarah Delahanty Strow, husband, Michael Strow, and great-grandson, Jordan, Grandson, Max, and his fiancé, Arielle Gumer; son, Dr. David Porter, and his wife, Kathleen Porter, grandson, Noah, and granddaughter, Sophie; daughter, Laurie Porter Borges, and her husband, Peter Borges, of Boston, granddaughter, Samantha, and grandson, Benjamin. Barbara was a graduate of Weaver High School and attended Lasalle College. She was the administrative assistant for the Central Tool Company and Choice Vend Manufacturing Company. Barbara was also the primary civilian employee at the U.S. Army NCO Club in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Upon returning to the mainland, Barbara assumed the position of Front End Manager for Bridle Path Pharmacy in West Hartford. Barbara also worked as an administrative para-professional for the West Hartford school system. Her children, grandchildren and great grandson were her greatest joys. She was a wonderful baker, hostess, life-long Yankee fan, and avid gardener. She loved to travel through the Caribbean and around the world with her husband, Alan. A special thank you to Cindy, Collia, Tanya, and Hannah for their loving care, skill, and kindness. Also, sincere appreciation to the Farmington Valley Visiting Nurse Association. There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, April 24th at 11:00am at the Beth Israel Cemetery, 51 Jackson St, Avon. Following the service, visitors are welcome at the Porter home, 4 Greenwich Lane, Farmington Woods, Avon. Memorial contributions may be made to Farmington Valley VNA in Simsbury, CT. Weinstein Mortuary has charge of arrangements.
