Barbara (Weiss) Goldberg

Barbara Weiss Goldberg, 78, of Naples, FL and Manchester, CT, died peacefully on Friday, March 19, 2010 at the Avow Hospice, Naples, FL. She is survived by her husband Robert P. Tucker; son Barry D. Goldberg, daughter Susan A. Goldberg, both of West Hartford, CT and daughter Elizabeth G. Granath, of New Canaan, CT, their spouses; five grandsons and a granddaughter. She was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Rose Weiss of Long Beach, NY, brother, Melvin Weiss of Manhattan, NY, and husband, Jack D. Goldberg, father of her children. Ms. Goldberg was a courageous champion of civil rights, the arts, and the preservation of nature. She was a graduate of the University of Hartford, and was an adjunct faculty member at the University. In 1985 she established a scholarship fund in her first husband’s name. She was active in community affairs in Naples being a docent for twenty years at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida; founding member on the Board of Directors at the Holocaust Museum of Southwest Florida; a founding member of Wyndermere Country Club; a founding member of Dem Women; a member of Greater Naples Leadership Class V; and a member of Temple Shalom, Naples, FL. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 22, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Beth Sholom B’nai Israel, 400 East Middle Turnpike, Manchester, CT with Rabbi Richard Plavin and Cantor Anita Schubert officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Beth Sholom Memorial Park, Manchester with her loved ones. A Memorial period will be observed at the Manchester residence, 119 Wyneding Hill Road on Monday following the interment through Tuesday evening. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her loving memory to the Barbara and Jack Goldberg Memorial Scholarship Fund at the University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford, CT 06117 or to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Ave., 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851 (www.themmrf.org).
