Arthur Elliot Phillips, 92 years of age, of Granby, CT died Friday, January 7, 2022 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Meriden, CT he was the son of Samuel Phillips and Marion (Cohen) Phillips. He joined the Naval reserves after high school and attended Bradley University, graduating in 1951. Upon graduation, he requested active military duty (during the Korean War), assigned in Cannes, France as a ship’s interpreter and then completing a 14-month tour in Japan. Art ran Phillips’ Sportswear for 35 years with his wife Sheila before retiring. Art was a member of the Kiwanis Club, a driver for the Simsbury Volunteer Ambulance Association, helped with many blood drives and was an alternate for the Granby Board of Appeals. He and Sheila were founding members of the Emek-Shalom Temple in Simsbury (now the Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation.) A loving father, grandfather and husband, he leaves his two surviving sons, Dr. Michael S. Phillips and his wife Jacqueline of Mt. Pleasant, SC and James R. Phillips and his wife Danielle of Salisbury, MA; and his grandchildren, John, Jessica, Kaitlyn and Rachel Phillips. He was predeceased by a son, David Scott Phillips, his wife Sheila (Pollack) Phillips, his grandson Jacob Phillips. He spent his last two years with his lady friend, Ella Adamites of Southwick, MA. Funeral services will be private with interment in the Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation-Emek Shalom Memorial Park, Avon, CT.
