Arlene Edith (Hochheiser) Levine was born August 13, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York, raised her family in Windsor Locks, Connecticut where she lived for fifty one years, and died January 13, 2015 in Delray Beach, Florida. She was the first of the two daughters of Louis Hochheiser and Lillian (Weisberg) Hochheiser. She leaves behind her much loved younger sister, Muriel Balaban, in California. She married William Levine in 1948, and they were married for 54 years, until his death in 2002. She leaves three children: Robert Levine ( wife Sue) from New Haven, Connecticut, Jonathan Levine from North Granby, Connecticut, and Linda Elliott (husband John) of Evergreen, Colorado. She leaves 11 grandchildren: Robert’s children Margaret Levine, Daniel Levine, Laura Levine, Michael Levine; Jonathan’s children Benjamin Levine, Rebecca Levine, Andrew Levine, Max Levine; Linda’s children Zachary Elliott, Cody Elliott, and Jessie Elliott. She also leaves three great grandchildren: Cody’s children Kyleigh and Sean Elliott, and Zachary’ son William Elliott. Arlene married the brother of her best friend, Miriam Guthart, whom she also leaves behind. Arlene graduated Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, New York. She did many years of community service, volunteering at both Mt Sinai Hospital in Connecticut and Delray Medical Center in Florida. She served as president of the PTA in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, while her children were young. She also served at the pleasure of Governor Ella T. Grasso of Connecticut in several capacities, including serving as a member of the Parole Board. She was very involved with the Democratic Town Committee in Windsor Locks, helping to elect governors Abe Ribicoff, John Dempsey, and Ella T. Grasso. In her later years she enjoyed traveling to many of the places she had fallen in love with through books, including China, Japan, Israel, and Russia. Her last wish for these past twelve years has been to return to her husband’s side and lie with him again, and now her wish has been granted. Rest in peace, daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, friend to many, and world traveler. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 21st, at 10:30 a.m. at the Teferes Israel Cemetary, 15 Wolcott Road, East Granby, Connecticut 06026. We will gather afterwards for a celebration of Arlene’s life, with refreshments, at the home of Jonathan Levine: 4 Northwoods Road, North Granby, Connecticut, 06060.
