Annette (Fine) Cohen

Annette (Fine) Cohen, 101, of Devonwood Drive, Farmington, died Monday, May 16th at her home in The Gables. She was the widow of George S. Cohen. Born in Hartford she was the daughter of the late Morris and Ada (Kramer) Fine. Mrs. Cohen was a founding member of Beth Hillel Synagogue, Bloomfield, a former member of its Sisterhood, and a Hebrew Teacher at the Synagogue. She was a former president of the Tenants Association of the Federation Homes, Bloomfield; corresponding secretary of the Hartford Jazz Society; and in 1995 was awarded the Successful Aging Award by Connecticut Community Care. Mrs. Cohen was very involved in volunteer activities in her community, at the Federation Homes, Bloomfield, and at The Gables, Farmington. In her late 90’s, she had a one-person showing of her paintings at The Gables and with the proceeds from the sale of these paintings, she subsidized art classes for the residents. She leaves a daughter Dr. Beth Colombe of Philadelphia, PA, a brother Arthur Fine of Bloomfield, and a sister, Barbara Hurwit of Anguilla, British West Indies. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 19th, at 11:00 AM, in the Beth Hillel Synagogue Cemetery, Wolcott Road, East Granby with Rabbi Edward Friedman officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisterhood of Beth Hillel Synagogue, 160 Wintonbury Road, Bloomfield 06002, or to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, P.O.
