Anna (Rabinowitz) Mintz

Anna (Rabinowitz) Mintz, 99, of Colchester, widow of Samuel Mintz, and daughter of the late Barnet and Minnie Rabinowitz, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2006 at Genesis Eldercare in Colchester surrounded by her loving family after a long and fruitful life. Born on September 29, 1906 in Brooklyn, NY, Anna moved as a young child with her family to Colchester. Anna attended a one-room schoolhouse in Colchester and was graduated in 1924 from Bacon Academy. In 1927, Anna married Samuel Mintz. In 2004, Anna was honored as the oldest living graduate of Bacon Academy having four generations attend and graduate from the school. Anna was an active member of Congregation Ahavath Achim, Hadassah and the Democratic Town Party. She was also noted for her acting ability with the Yiddish players of Colchester. Anna was loved and known by all as a gentle, kind and generous woman. Her home was always opened to family and friends with her kind hospitality of “coffee and sweets” which carried through to her later years at the convalescent home. Anna will be sorely missed by her family and many friends especially those who considered her a “link to their past”. Anna is survived by her two daughters: Carol and her husband George Chemerynski of Colchester, and Lois and her husband Joe Fleischmann of Glastonbury; her grandchildren: Cheryl and Vin Croce of Colchester, Mark and Teri Chemerynski of Colchester, Michael and Jane Chemerynski of Marlborough; her great grandchildren: Jonah and Jennifer Piascik of Portland, Jesse and Shawntel Piascik of Highland, WI, Marissa and Jeff Taylor of Portland, Charity Chemerynski of Colchester, Sara and Trevor Kinney of Coventry, Hannah Chemerynski and Matt Waltz of Coventry; Rachel and Krista Chemerynski of Marlborough, Natalie and Ethan Rosenfeld-Gaudette of Colchester, and four great great grandchildren Sam and Ben Piascik of Highland, WI, Jaelyn Taylor of Portland, Miya Kinney of Coventry, as well as her sister Sara Silverlieb of Swampscott, MA. Anna’s grandchildren Marci Lynn and Ronald Scott Rosenfeld predeceased her. Anna leaves many dear, long time and devoted friends, in particular, Carol Sklarsky who visited her daily, and Rabbi Ken Alter. The family extends its gratitude to the entire staff at Genesis Eldercare for their care, kindness and support. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 12th at 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary of Congregation Ahavath Achim, 84 Lebanon Ave., Colchester, with Rabbi Ken Alter officiating. Interment will follow in the Ahavath Achim Cemetery. A memorial period will be observed at the home of Joe and Lois Fleischmann, 183 Worthington Rd., Glastonbury Thursday following the funeral through Sunday evening.
