Anna Gurvich

Anna Gurvich, age 75, passed away at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford on September 11, 2014 following a long struggle with cancer. Anna was born in Vinnitsa, Ukraine. She was the daughter of Sophia and Meir Kaplun. She earned a MS degree in Volgograd, Russia and moved to Riga, Latvia, where she worked at Riga Polytechnic Institute and married Boris Gurvich. In 1977, Anna and Boris, with their son Alex, immigrated as political refugees to Chicago. In 1984 they moved to West Hartford, CT where Anna worked at Yale University for 28 years as a senior HVAC engineer. Anna was one of only a handful of women who obtained a Professional Engineer license in HVAC in Connecticut. Among the many things Anna loved in life were tennis, swimming, family and friends, who valued her optimism, energy and loyalty. Anna is survived by her husband, Boris Gurvich, brother Misha Kaplun, son Alex Gurvich, daughter in-law Jessica, and the love of her life, grandson Julien. A memorial service will be held on Sunday at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave, West Hartford at 12.00 pm. The funeral will be held at Fairview Cemetery following the service. All are invited to attend the Shiva at 41 Clifford Drive, West Hartford, 06107 after the funeral. Memorial Donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society .
