Amelia ("Mickey" Neiditch) Katz

Amelia ‘Mickey’ (Neiditch) Katz passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at her home after a courageous battle with leukemia, which was rather ironic since she managed to survive two bouts of breast cancer. Born in Hartford on August 1, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Sophia (Coff) Neiditch. She resided in West Hartford for the past 49 years. Upon her graduation from Weaver High School, Class of 1941, she chose to further her studies at Hartford Secretarial School. Upon completion of her program, she immediately put her new skills to work in Hartford for the U.S. Department of the Navy during World War II. In 1944 she married her high school sweetheart Arthur S. Katz who predeceased her in 1993. Following World War II, she took time off to raise her family. Eventually, she decided to re-enter the work force. Her work experience culminated with her being supervisor, for many years, of the support staff for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service in Hartford. She leaves her son, Dr. Peter S. Katz and his wife Marci of West Hartford; her daughters, Janet Crystal and her husband Michael of Wilton, and Beth Katz and her companion Howard Hall of Suffield; four grandchildren, Dr. Stephanie L. Katz and her husband Gene Glotzer, Jessica Katz, Alaina Crystal, and Jennifer Crystal; and a great-granddaughter, Abigail Katz-Glotzer. She also leaves a special friend, Sol Yazmer, who provided loving companionship over the past number of years. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, February 14, 2014 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Michael Pincus officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Israel Cemetery, Hartford. Following the interment the family will receive relatives and friends at her home, 2651 Albany Ave., West Hartford through Sunday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St., I-91 Tech Ctr., Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
