Dr. Alvin N. Ehrlich, of Boca Raton, FL and Avon, CT, died peacefully, Thursday, July 16, 2015. He was 79 years old. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Jacob and Hannah (Miller) Ehrlich. He graduated Erasmus High in ’52, and Lafayette College, Magna Cum Laude, in ’56, where he played basketball for coach Butch van Breda Kolff. In 1960, after receiving his degree from Downstate Medical Center, he married Elaine Hurwitz of Syracuse, NY. He then interned at Kings County, and was subsequently commissioned as a medical officer in the army, serving for 2 years in Germany. Dr. Ehrlich resumed his residency at Kings County in ’63, continuing his training in ’65 at the Cornell Division of Bellevue and Memorial Hospitals. He practiced medicine with the Passaic Internal Medical Group in Passaic, N.J. for over 30 years, while also affiliated at Memorial Hospital in NYC. Dr. Ehrlich served on the faculty at the Weill Cornell Medical College. He loved sports and was an avid club tennis player. Alvin was known and adored for his warm, loving, confident and effortless bedside manner with his patients, friends and family. He had a brilliant intellect and wit, as well as a quiet, easy way of lifting and lightening a room. He leaves his wife, Elaine (Hurwitz) Ehrlich; his daughters, Karen Polinsky and her husband Jeffrey of Avon, CT, and Deborah Ehrlich of Accord, NY; his son, Jonathan Ehrlich and his wife Noa of Los Angeles, CA; and seven grandchildren, Emily, Rachel & Samantha Polinsky; Jacob, Ruby & Georgia Ehrlich; and, Willa Ehrlich Kurtz.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Beth El Temple Cemetery, Jackson St. Ext., Avon with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Following the interment on Sunday (2pm - 8pm) and Monday (1pm - 8pm) the family will receive relatives and friends at the Polinsky residence, 242 Coldspring Rd., Avon, CT, 06001 In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to TrustBridge Hospice, (561)494-6887, Hospice By The Sea Foundation, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407, www.hbts.org.
