Allen (M.) Kaplan

Allen M. Kaplan, 64, of Hunters Lane, Newington, husband of Lynn (Goldberg) Kaplan, died Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Isadore and Ruth (Harris) Kaplan. Allen graduated Phi Beta Kappa from and received a Masters of Social Work from the University of Connecticut. He did an internship at Southbury Training School. Allen was Director of Case Workers and Principal Administrative Analyst for the City of Hartford. He was also Director of Human Services and ADA Coordinator in Cromwell. He was a member of Congregation B?nai Sholom of Newington; he served several terms as a member of the Board of Directors of the congregation; he served several terms as President of the Brotherhood of the congregation and the Brotherhood honored him as its? ?Member of the Year?; he was also a member of the Ritual Committee of the congregation and the chief ?Kohen?; he was past president of the Southfield Interfaith Housing Association, and an avid cyclist. Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters: Tammi Kaplan of Manchester, Sara Kaplan of West Hartford, Ilene Kohlun and her husband David of Glastonbury; two step sons: Brett Gottheimer of Vernon and Lee Gottheimer and his wife Aniela of Las Vegas, NV; two grandsons Zev and Timothy; a niece Robin Goldberg; his in-laws: Jeanette and Charles Goldberg; sister-in-law Rebecca Goldberg and brother-in-law David Goldberg; and special friends Joel Hoffman and Charlotte and Herb Hankin. Funeral services will be held TODAY, FRIDAY FEBRUARY 16, 2007 at 10:30 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Debra Cantor and Rabbi Gary Atkins officiating. Interment will follow in the B?nai Sholom Memorial Park, Wethersfield. Shiva will be observed at his home, 181 Hunters Lane, Newington.
