Agnes 'Val' (Minlionica) Yaffa

YAFFA, Agnes “Val” (Minlionica), of Newington, beloved wife of Irv Yaffa, died from her injuries sustained in an auto accident at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford on Monday (June 26, 2006). Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Theresa (Asaro) Minlionica. Val was an entertainer/singer who traveled the world entertaining our troops in USO with her husband Irv Yaffa “Jeffries”. In addition to being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Val’s other accomplishments include Ziegfield Girl, recording artist on RCA records, performing on the Johnny Carson Show and working for many years at Aetna, where she retired. Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Michael Yaffa and his wife, Marci of Manchester, and a daughter Kim Yaffa of West Hartford, and two loving grandchildren, Jamie and Lauren. She is also survived by a brother, Tom Minlionica and a sister, Joan Minlionica, both of Long Island, NY. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 9:30 am in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave, Hartford. Interment will follow the service at State Veteran’s Cemetery, Middletown. A memorial period will be observed following the funeral and Thursday evening at the home of her son, 101 Shallowbrook Lane, Manchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of donor’s choice.
