Abraham "Jake" Jacobs

Abraham “Jake” Jacobs, 93, a resident of the Hebrew Home and Hospital, husband of the late Gloria (White) Jacobs, died February 3rd, 2011 at St Francis Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Wallingford to the late Joseph and Esther Jacobs, he was a proud member of “The Greatest Generation” having fought to preserve our freedoms during WWII in the Pacific. While he never openly discussed his military service, he carried those memories as a personal badge of honor. He passed away as he lived his life.quietly, with integrity and most of all filled with love of his family. He became a recognizable fixture wherever he went as his bright, green Red Sox hat, that he wore constantly, could be seen from afar. He leaves to grieve his passing his son and best friend, Michael Jacobs and his wife Candace of Cromwell, his devoted daughter, Elisse Foley and her husband Robert of Newington; wonderfully loving and caring grandchildren Donald Cosenza and his wife Betsy of Cheshire, Jillian Jacobs of Philadelphia, Alyson Jacobs of Washington, DC and Margaret and Abigail O’Brien of Glastonbury; his great-grandchildren, Olivia and Joseph Cosenza of Cheshire and his brother David Jacobs and his wife Frances of Florida. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by brothers Morris Jacobs and Sam Jacobs and sisters, his twin Gertrude Rosenblatt, Rose Farber, and Bertha Reskin. The family wishes to express its appreciation to the staff at the Hebrew Home on 3 North and St. Francis Hospital 6th floor for their loving and professional care. A graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 6, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the Jewish War Veterans Cemetery, Cleveland Ave., Hartford. A memorial period will be observed at the home of his son Michael, 7 Woodbridge Lane, Cromwell, following the funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hebrew Home & Hospital, 1 Abrahms Blvd., West Hartford 06117. Arrangements entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford.
