Beth Ann Lipton
Beth Ann Lipton, 54, of Ellington, died peacefully Saturday, (April 29, 2006) at Manchester Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on February 14, 1952 in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of Eleanor Lipton and the late Simon Lipton. She is survived by three brothers, William Lipton and his wife, Jeanne, Donald Lipton, Jeffrey Lipton and his wife, Joanne, all of Somers; and a sister, Judith (Lipton) Goldberg and her husband, Edward of Waterford; and 11 nieces and nephews, Daniel, Amy, Sarah, David, Mark, Matthew, Marissa, Louis, Alicia, Joseph, and Jacob. Beth attended local schools and graduated from Somers High School in 1970. She attended Creative School of Hairdressing in Hartford and began her hairdressing career at Albert and Larry's Beauty Salon in Vernon. She opened her own salon, Hair World several years later on Route 83, gradually expanding the business and moving to larger quarters at Shops at 30. After many years of providing hair and beauty services to the community, she recently sold the business, but continued to work at Hair World during her illness. She was involved in the National Cosmetologists Association and was a member of the Rockville Chamber of Commerce, as well as being actively involved in multiple charities including the American Cancer Society's Look Good Feel Good program. Beth was also active in her synagogue, Temple Beth Sholom in Manchester, where she attended services regularly and belonged to the Sisterhood. She was one of the original creators of Mitzvah Day, also serving as either chair or co-chair since its inception, and was editor of the synagogue bulletin. Beth was also a member of Hadassah. Beth was a Reiki Master and teacher, she was a Reiki hospice volunteer, as well as being involved in multiple other healing modalities. Beth was an avid Uconn Husky fan, always either attending games or watching with friends. Services will be held at Temple Beth Sholom, 400 East Middle Turnpike, Manchester, TODAY, at 1 p.m. with Rabbi Richard Plavin officiating. Burial will be immediately following in Somers Center Cemetery, Battle Street, Somers. Weinstein Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. A period of mourning will be observed at the home of Eleanor Lipton, 435 South Road following the funeral through Tuesday evening, and at the home of Judith and Edward Goldberg, 91 Braman Road, Waterford, Wednesday.
