Daniel Miller, M.D.
Daniel Miller, M.D., 87, of Bloomfield, CT, formerly of Great Neck, NY, Devoted and beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, gifted physician and sculptor passed away Monday (December 12, 2005). Born in NYC in 1918, to the late Max and Sarah (Hershman) Miller. He studied at the New York City Sculpture Center under Dorothea Denslow, earned a B.A. (1940) and M.D. (1943) from NYU. After completing this internship at Brooklyn Jewish Medical center (1944) he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army Medical Corps (1944-46). He married Edith Wolfe, the love of his life in 1945. He completed his medical training as a resident in psychiatry at the VA hospital in Lyons, N.J. (1946-48). A gifted physician and psychoanalyst he served as Asst. Chief of Psychiatry at the Brooklyn V.A. 1949-1955. Always interested in learning and teaching Daniel was a founding member the founding faculty and served as training and supervising analyst at the Long Island Institute of Psychoanalysis (1977-1991). He enjoyed teaching psychiatry residents at Nassau Community Medical Center and Long Island Jewish/ Hillside Medical Center. He served as president of the Nassau County Psychiatric Association (1969-70). He is predeceased by his parents, loving wife Edith, sister Mary and brother Murray. He is survived by his children Marc, Karen and Richard; and five grandchildren, Morgan, David, Amy, Sara and Zoë. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Lorna Grant for her dedication, care and companionship; and to the dedicated Staff of Seabury Retirement Community as well as to "cousin Bill" for his valued friendship. Funeral services were held Tuesday. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Arrangements entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford.
