Albert I. Freedman
Albert I. Freedman, 89, of Steele Road, West Hartford, died Tuesday, November 8, 2005. He was predeceased by his wife Edna (Raskin) Freedman. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Arthur and Rose (Glass) Freedman. He attended Hartford Public Schools and graduated from the Teachers College of Connecticut, now Central Connecticut State University and received his Master’s Degree from UConn in Educational Administration and Supervision. He was the first principal of both the Mary Hooker School and the Annie Fisher School, both in Hartford. He also held the position of Associate Professor at the University of Hartford and the Teachers College of Connecticut. On behalf of many school systems in various states, he wrote proposals to obtain Federal Funding for educational grants. He was also a consultant to the Rabbinical College of America. For over 50 years, he was a dedicated educator, mentor, and advocate for educational achievement. He was the Director of Audio/Visual Education for Congregation Beth Israel in West Hartford and the Daycare Director of the New Britain Federation Camp. He was a lifetime member of Congregation Beth Israel, West Hartford. He enjoyed life to its fullest, whether on the golf course, or in the classroom, and was an inspiration to everyone whose life he touched. He leaves two daughters: Susanne Mannix and her husband Brian of West Hempstead, L.I., NY; Debra Sternbach and her husband Robert of Berkeley, CA; and a brother, Dr. Irving Freedman of Estero, FL. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 11, 2005 at 11:00 AM in the Silberman Chapel of Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, with Rabbi Stephen Fuchs officiating. Interment will follow in the Beth Israel Cemetery, Avon. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice Fund, 103 Woodland St., Hartford 06105, The Michael J.
