Dorothy (Block) Cohen
Dorothy (Block) Cohen of Frog Hollow Rd., Ellington, widow of David Cohen, died Tuesday (August 9, 2005). Born in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Goodman and Anna (Factor) Block, and was a member of Knesseth Israel Synagogue and its sisterhood and a member of Hadassah. She was the former Ellington Town Historian, a member of the Ellington Historical Society and had authored a map and book on the town of Ellington. She is survived by three sons: Jonathan Cohen, Sanford Cohen and Harris Cohen, all of Ellington; a brother Morris Block and a sister Mildred (Block) Witzer, both of California; ten grandchildren: Rebecca, Seth, Laura, Joseph, Katherine, Gabrielle, David, Jacob, Miriam, and Eva; and a great granddaughter, Anna. She was predeceased by a brother Jack Block. Funeral services will be Thursday, 11 a.m. at the Knesseth Israel Cemetery, Ellington. A memorial period will be observed at the home of her son, Harris Cohen, 171 Abbott Rd., Ellington. Memorial contributions may be made to Knesseth Israel Synagogue, P.O. Box 12, Ellington, CT 06029.
