Lillian Siegel Bayer Marlow
Lillian (Siegal) Bayer Marlow, of Manchester, CT, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 28, 2017. She was 97 years old. As she put it, “it’s way too late for me to die young.” She was married to the late Philip Bayer for 36 years, and to the late George Marlow for 24 years.

Born in Hartford, CT, in 1919, she was one of five children of the late Aron and Fanny Siegal. She graduated from Weaver High School, where she was known as “Red” and earned many accolades. She worked as a legal secretary and, during World War II, worked for the Navy at Pratt & Whitney. She was a mother, homemaker, and an active volunteer in Hadassah, Manchester Scholarship Foundation, UJA, Israel Bonds, and Greater Hartford Jewish Historical Society. When Phil passed away in 1977, she embarked on a career in the state legislature, working in the Senate Majority Leader’s office and carving out a distinct role for herself in politics and government.

She lived life with love, vigor, and an irrepressible sense of humor, which she displayed in the face of both triumph and tragedy. She was honest and filter-less, so you always knew where you stood with her. Those who knew her have a virtually endless supply of stories to remember her by.

Lillian leaves her son, Atty Aaron Bayer and his wife, Dr. Laurie Bayer, of Glastonbury, CT; her grandchildren, Rose, Philip, and Abraham Bayer, Philip Lev Berenbaum, Rabbi Ilana Grinblat, her husband Tal, and great grandchildren Jeremy and Hannah Grinblat. She was predeceased by her daughter, Linda Bayer. She will be missed as well by her nieces, nephews, friends, and members of her synagogue and community.

Funeral services will be at 12:45 pm on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Beth Sholom B’nai Israel, 400 East Middle Turnpike, Manchester, CT with Rabbi Richard Plavin officiating. Interment will follow in the Beth Sholom B’nai Israel Memorial Park, Autumn Street, Manchester, CT. Shiva will be observed at her home, 51 Blue Ridge Drive, Manchester, CT, with evening services held there on Sunday, July 2nd through Wednesday July 5th at 7:00 p.m. and visiting hours from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bayer Marlow Fund, c/o Beth Sholom B’nai Israel or to the Jewish Historical Society of Greater Hartford.
