Arnold Field
Arnold Field, 100 years old, of Bloomfield, CT died Wednesday, January 4th peacefully at home. He was the beloved husband of Selma (Neckrich) for 78 years. Born in Middletown on July 18, 1916, he was the son of Jacob and Ellen Field. He graduated from Middletown High School and was a writer for the CT Jewish Argus and worked for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft making engines in WWII. In 1945, he opened his first gas station in Hartford and remained in that business as a skilled mechanic for the next 30 years. When he retired in 1976, he became active and eventually President of the Bnai Brith and the SES Club at the Greater Hartford Jewish Community Center, receiving numerous honors for his charitable work from both organizations. He is survived by his two sons, Attorney Gerald Field and Dr. Barry Field, whom he was so proud of and their wives, Sarah and Julie and grandchildren: Aaron Field, Jessica and her husband Brian Macharelli and their children, Milania and Giuliana, Rachel, Hannah and Miles Field. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank Halina and Mirek for their loving care over the past few years. A graveside cer­emony will be held at Beth Hillel Cemetary, Wolcott Rd, East Granby CT at 1pm on Monday, January 9th. Shiva will be held following the ceremony at the home of At­torney Gerald Field, 93 Parsons Drive, West Hartford. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Greater Hartford Jewish Federation.
