Marc A. Nerenstone
Marc A. Nerenstone, 87 years of age, of Chantilly, VA died Monday, March 21, 2016. He was the son of the late Morris and Etta (Albin) Nerenstone. He graduated from Alfred University and was employed in materials development spending two years in the US Army. When the Cuban Missile Crisis broke out in October 1962, he was a civilian operations research analyst working with the US Navy in Key West FL; and developed the tactics which were employed to defend the town and naval installation against the Soviet Komars. These boats were outfitted with nuclear capable missiles and stationed in Cuba's Mariel Harbor. During the Vietnam War, his analysis of Navy operations off the coast of South Vietnam dissuaded Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara from launching a bombing campaign along the east coast of South Vietnam. The paper that was presented of this analysis was awarded First Prize at the Military Operations Research Society Symposium in April 1976. In 1983, Mr. Nerenstone obtained his J.D. from George Mason School of Law. When he retired from the US Department of Justice, he moved to Florida where he was a chairperson of the Democratic Party, Lee County, FL, and he was active in the JWV Post 400.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Nerenstone; his children, Marti Nerenstone (Ann Carpenter) of Council Bluffs, IA, Dr. Stacy R. Nerenstone (Morton L. Weinstein) of Farmington, CT, and Peter Nerenstone of Silver Spring, MD; his grandchildren, Cory Cohen, Larry Cohen and his fiancé Abby Krom, Isaac Cohen, Brett Weinstein (Gerrie), and Kara Morrow (Jake); and his great-grandchildren, Maia and Shai Weinstein, and Ethan Morrow.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, VA. Memorial donations may be made to the American Israel Education Foundation Associated with AIPAC (AIEF)Attention: Jodi Kurtis, 251 H Street NW, Washington, DC 20001.
