Lewis S. Cohn
Lewis S.Cohn, 58 years of age, of West Hartford died on Tuesday, February 2, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Cheri J. (Smith) Cohn. Born in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Martin and Marion (Schwartz) Cohn. Lewis grew up in Rockville, Centre, NY and from there graduated from Washington University where he studied English. His professional career began as a newspaper reporter for the Torrington Register in CT. From there he worked in New York for the prestigious advertising agencies Ally and Gargano and Della Femina Travisano. He was also an instructor at the School of Visual Arts during this period. Most recently he was the principal of Switch Brand Innovation, a Hartford based advertising agency and creative consultancy. His honors include the coveted Clio Award and he has been recognized for his work by the Art Director's Club of NY, St. Louis, and Miami. His work has been featured in Adweek, Advertising Age, NY Times, USA Today, and on ESPN's Sportcenter. Lewis was an avid runner, a master of karate, a superb skier and most recently had taken up Tai Chi. He was very proud of running the Hartford half marathon which was momentous for him as it fell on the third anniversary of his illness and while receiving chemotherapy. Lewis will be remembered for his sweetness, good character, intelligence, warmth and dry wit. In addition to his wife Cheri, he will be dearly missed by his beloved daughter, Isabelle; his brother Roger Cohn (Patti Brown) and their two children, Jacob and Gabe of New Haven; his brother Kenneth Cohn of Queens, NY and two sons Seth (Kristina) and Ethan; his brother in law Jeri Smith (Cathy) and their two daughters Ali and Caitlin of St. Louis, MO; and special Aunts Charlotte Stein, Sheila Sobel and Karen Fleming. A memorial service will be held at Beth Israel Synagogue, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT at 1pm on Sunday, February 7, 2016 with a reception to follow.
