Sandra L. Kravet
Sandra Lois (Barson) Kravet, of Avon died October 31, 2014 with grace and dignity in the comfort of her home, after a courageous battle with cancer, in the arms of her husband and surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Natalie (Poch) Barson. While attending 5th grade religious school, she met a young boy, David Kravet, who would become her soul mate. Never straying far from the Hartford area the two were married and were the loves of each other’s lives.

Sandy was the matriarch of her family and devoted much of her time to her children and grandchildren. She was very proud of her grandchildren who called her Grammy. She was an avid shopper and loved her trips to New York where she enjoyed her friends at Doubletree and especially her friends at R&R and UR Jewelers. Sandra was always dressed in the latest styles and had a strong fashion sense. Sandra was a huge fan of the arts and in addition to regular trips to West Hartford Symphony, she loved her front row seats at many a Broadway show. Sandra enjoyed fine restaurants and was especially fond of Asian pear martinis at Feng.

After graduating from Saint Joseph University, Sandra became a teacher in the Hartford School System. She took time off to raise her children, and then she began a second career with Aetna pensions where she became a supervisor. After retiring from Aetna, she co-founded Grayling Associates Inc. and worked with her family as a corporate financial officer there. Sandy gave to her community and was past president of the National Council of Jewish Women; an active member of the Saint Joseph Alumni Association and served on the Education Committee at the Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation.

She leaves her husband of 55 years, David S. Kravet; her son Jeremy W. Kravet and his wife Marcy of Avon; her daughter Tammi F. Girard and her husband Joseph of Simsbury; and four grandchildren, Max Kravet, Jessica Kravet, Jennifer Girard and Thomas Girard. She also leaves her daughter Adeena and her family and a brother Arthur and his family.

Sandra would want to thank all of her family, friends and caregivers who supported her throughout her life. Special thanks to the doctors who cared for her: Ronald Szabo, Stacy Nerenstone, Andrew Salner, Richard Gannon, Paul Schwartz, Leah Meisterling, John Russomanno, Mario Katigbak, Bernice Schaefer, Jennifer Pennoyer, Peter Katz and Lisa Corbett. Heartfelt thanks to the nurses and aides at Hartford Hospital Neuro ICU and CB2 and CB3 and VNA Hospice. Thanks to the staff at MeadowBrook of Granby. A very special thank you to Rabbi Howard Herman.

Sandy will be remembered as a strong woman of great resolve and will be especially missed by her family and friends.
