Margot Marx Hammerschlag
Margot (Marx) Hammerschlag, 93, of Stamford, CT, formerly of West Hartford, died Friday, March 28, 2014. She was the widow of Max Hammerschlag also of West Hartford. The daughter of Emilie (Ackerman) and Leo Marx, she was born in Weyer, Germany on February 20, 1921. She departed Nazi Germany for England in 1939, never again seeing her parents who perished in the Holocaust. She came to the US in 1949, and married Max Hammerschlag in 1951. She was pre-deceased by four siblings, Ernst Marx of Johannesburg, South Africa, Flora Dreyfus of Basel, Switzerland, Friedel Siano of Zurich, Switzerland, and Manfred Marx of West Hartford. A long time resident of Hartford, she worked at G. Fox & Co. at 960 Main Street for many years and later went to work at The Travelers Insurance Company before she retired. She was a member of Congregation B'nai Tikvoh-Sholom in Bloomfield. Margot enjoyed playing cards and games at the West Hartford Senior Center, was devoted to the Crown Market, was a superb baker and cook, and loved spending time with and entertaining her family. She leaves her daughters, Carmen Hammerschlag of New York, NY, and Elaine Arbizo and her husband Ernest of Stamford, and two grandsons, Alexander Arbizo of Arlington, Virginia, and Eric Arbizo, currently residing in Pnom Penh, Cambodia. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 31, 2014 at B'nai Tikvoh-Sholom Cemetery, 10 Club House Rd., Windsor with Rabbi Debra Cantor officiating. Minyan will be held at the West Hartford home of Ursula Marx on Monday evening March 31st and at the Stamford home of Elaine Arbizo on Tuesday, April 1st. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Congregation B'nai Tikvoh-Sholom, 180 Still Rd., Bloomfield, CT 06002. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford.
