David Major Wetstone
Dr. David M. Wetstone of Farmington and Boca Raton, Florida born on May 14, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York to Benjamin Wetstone and Esther Halprin Wetstone, died February 25 after a lengthy illness. David earned a BS from UCONN and a PhD in Chemistry from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. He served in the United States Army and Army Reserves. His service included the occupation of Japan in WWII, Korea and the Pentagon. He was honorably retired from the United States Army on May 14, 1986, as a Lt. Colonel. Dr. Wetstone co-founded the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering and served as Chief Operation Officer for 25 years following his retirement from United Aircraft Research Laboratories (now United Technologies Research Center) as senior research scientist in plasma physics and as a liaison with the US academic research community. During this time he edited, published and contributed to over 150 reports on science policy to the Connecticut legislature and executive branches and others. He was a member of many scientific organizations, and had participated on the Advisory Committee on Accreditation (ACA) for the State of Connecticut. David was an avid reader, lover of Opera, and fine wine. He was a black diamond skier and avid tennis player who loved to play Bridge. He and his wife Dorothy traveled extensively in his later years. David was predeceased by his sister, Marilyn Wetstone Fries. He is survived by his loving wife Dr. Dorothy Fishman Wetstone, his sons; Mark Wetstone and his wife Pamela, and Eric Wetstone; his stepsons; Mark Fishman and his sons Daniel and Andrew, and Dr. David Fishman and his wife Dr. Mindy Fishman and their sons Issac, Ben, Zach and Aaron. Funeral services, with full Military Honors, will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Beth Israel Cemetery, 27 Jackson St., Avon with Rabbi Michael Pincus officiating.
