Alfred Rosenthal
Alfred Rosenthal, 92, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and caregivers on Thursday, (February 7, 2013) at his home. He was the beloved husband of the late Hilda (Veroff) Rosenthal for 55 years. A life long native of Hartford, he was the son of the late Isadore and Mollie (Sklar) Rosenthal. Al attended Weaver High School and was a graduate of Bentley College in 1940. Early in Al’s accounting career, he partnered with Julius (Yuddy) Shapiro, forming the firm of Shapiro Rosenthal. They continued their partnership which evolved into BlumShapiro in 1980, which currently is the largest accounting firm based in the New England. Al loved his profession and was so very proud to be affiliated with a firm he considered to be part of his family, until his retirement in 1988. He was highly regarded as a prominent CPA in the area with a keen and respected business sense in addition to being the ultimate gentleman, with a warm personality and infectious smile; intellectual curiosity and an unwavering sense of humor. Al served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He held many key positions as an active life long board member and volunteer for the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, Beth El Temple; and a member of the West Hartford Regents. He enjoyed spending time with his wide circle of life-long friends in Hartford and Florida, golfing, playing tennis, bridge and dining at his beloved Max Restaurants. Al’s greatest enjoyment was undoubtedly being a devoted father and “Zaide,” with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law: David and Judy of Hartford, Edward and Winsome of Fairfield and Richard and Vicki of West Hartford. In addition he leaves his six cherished grandchildren: Max, Jacob, Molly, Emily, Julia and Hannah; his sister-in-law, Bernice Veroff, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his loving sister Judy (Rosenthal) Kaplan and her husband, Nathan Kaplan, Joseph and Jody Veroff and Harold Veroff .
