Marvin Saltzman, M.D.
Marvin Saltzman, M.D., 86 of Plainville, died on Saturday, October 6, 2012. A native of Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Saltzman was the son of the late Samuel and Celia Saltzman, and the brother of the late Lawrence Saltzman and the late Enid Feinberg. Following service from 1944 to 1946 as a U.S. Navy Medical Corpsman, Dr. Saltzman earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the University of Vermont. He married the former Sylvia Wool of Burlington, VT in 1951, and they departed for Switzerland in 1952 where Dr. Saltzman studied medicine at the medical facility of the University of Berne. Following medical school, he completed an internship and residency at the New Britain General Hospital. Before opening his practice in Plainville in 1963, Dr. Saltzman spent a year as a physician at DEW Line radar stations in the high Arctic. Dr. Saltzman practiced in Plainville until 1980. He was affiliated with the New Britain General Hospital and the New Britain Memorial Hospital and served as the plant physician for General Electric. He taught at the University of Connecticut Medical School as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine, and he was a member of the school board in Plainville for seven years. In 1980, he joined the staff of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the New Britain General Hospital and served until his early retirement in 1993 due to health problems. He and Sylvia enjoyed trips to Switzerland, their “foster home” where they had many friends from his student days. He enjoyed music, books, entertaining friends, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dr. Saltzman is survived by his wife, Sylvia, by his son William, and his wife Lee Anne and their daughters Marissa and Jocelyn, and by his son James, and his wife Nina, and their daughter Danielle.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with interment following in the Beth Alom Cemetery, Allen St., New Britain.
