Eduard Pogosiants
Eduard Pogosiants, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Friday, June 1. He was 87. A native of Baku, Azerbaijan, Mr. Pogosiants served in World War II, earning the highest honors bestowed by the Soviet Army. He went on to complete bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering, and had a long and fruitful career in Baku. In the wake of the fall of the Soviet Union and anti-Armenian pogroms in Azerbaijan, he relocated to Armenia and later settled in the United States. In Hartford, he was an active member of St. George Armenian Church and a member of the Connecticut Veterans Association. He was recognized for his dedicated service during World War II by Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz. He had an infectious joy for life, a warm heart, and undying faith. He is survived by Anna Ambartsumova, his loving wife of 57 years; his son Vadim Pogosiants; his daughter Lorina Abalian and son-in-law Garen Abalian, and their two children, Karine and Anna.

A wake will be held on Monday, June 4, at the Weinstein Mortuary in Hartford, from 5 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. George Armenian Church of Hartford on Tuesday, June 5, beginning at 10 a.m. The burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in West Hartford (200 Whitman Ave.). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. George Armenian Church (22 White Street, Hartford, CT 06114).
