Elaine Hope (Greenblatt) Gladstein
Elaine Hope (Greenblatt) Gladstein, a long time resident of West Hartford and Avon, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2012. The youngest child of the late Samuel and Dorothy (Katz) Greenblatt of Waterbury, CT, Elaine was born in 1928 and was always ahead of her time. She attended Simmons College in Boston before beginning her career as a medical office manager. Her family often proudly referred to her as an "AAD" (Almost a Doctor) because of all the knowledge she gained from working with doctors for so many years. She also loved to play games and was, most notably, an avid and accomplished bridge player. She moved from Avon, CT to McCauley in West Hartford when her most treasured friend and bridge partner, Morton Gladstein, passed away in 2003 after 50 wonderful years of marriage. She learned to play bridge and slots online and formed a new bridge group at McCauley. Elaine cherished spending time with family and friends, and was happiest when traveling to warm places.

She leaves behind her daughters Robin (Jim) Engle from Providence, RI, and Judie (Rick) Goldenthal, from West Hartford, and her son, Bruce (Dayna) Gladstein from Saunderstown, RI. Her grandchildren Jason and Jessica Engle, Jeffrey and Jamie Engle, Bradley Engle, Abby Goldenthal and Aaron Goldenthal will dearly miss their Nana. She also leaves a great-granddaughter Caroline Engle. Elaine is also survived by her sister, Jeanne Lewis of Washington, DC and her sister-in-law Evelyn Greenblatt of North Branford, CT, as well as many nieces nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Morton Greenblatt.

Funeral services will be held, Friday, February 17, at 11:00 am in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford with Rabbi Dena Shaffer officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Israel Cemetery, Jackson St. Ext., Avon. Shiva will be observed at her home following interment through 4 pm, and continue on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at the home of her daughter, Robin Engle, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Elaine’s memory may be made to Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, CT or your favorite charity.
