Leon G. Elston
Leon G. Elston, 91, of West Hartford, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Hebrew Health Care, West Hartford. Born in New York City on December 5, 1919, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lena (Lukofsky) Epstein. Mr. Elston graduated from New Utrecht High School, and from CCNY School of Business Administration with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Accounting. Mr. Elston then moved to Washington, D.C. where he worked for the federal government in the General Accounting Office. During World War II, he served as a sergeant in the Army/Air Force where he was stationed in Tripoli. After the war, from 1951-1952, he served as Commander of the Jewish War Veterans, Hartford Laurel Post 45. In Hartford, Mr. Elston joined the staff at Equipment Service, Inc., as the Accounting Manager and later became the Vice President and General Manager before retiring in 1992. In 1948, he married the love of his life, Roslyn Millstein. The Elstons were one of the founding members of Congregation B’nai Sholom in Newington where he served terms as Director of the Religious School and President. He also played third base for the synagogue in the Interfaith Softball League. He was an AVID New York Yankees fan. He enjoyed music, tennis, swimming, and summers at the beach. He was a loving, dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. A kind and gentle man, honest, caring and eternally optimistic, he earned the respect, friendship and love of many. Besides his wife, Roslyn, he leaves two daughters: Jody Katz and her husband Merrill, Sari Elston-Trzepacz and her husband Paul; granddaughter Jamie Katz, grandson Mark Katz, and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Weber. The Family would like to thank the Hebrew Healthcare Hospice nurses and aids for their exceptional care of Leon while he was at home. And with sincerest gratitude, we thank everyone for their kindness, support, compassion, and love for Leon and his family during this difficult time.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Debra Cantor officiating. Interment will follow in the Congregation B’nai Sholom Cemetery, Jordan Lane Extension, Wethersfield. A memorial period will be observed at his home, 24 Federal St., West Hartford following the interment through Tuesday evening, with services at 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation B’nai Sholom, 26 Buena Vista Rd., West Hartford 06107, or to Hebrew Healthcare Hospice, 2 Wintonbury Mall, Bloomfield 06002.
